Abstract
This photograph illustrates Captain Geoffrey Crawshay's Welsh team from the tour of 1931. Beginning with an invitation to Captain Crawshay (1892-1954) to field a Welsh team gainst Devonport Services RFC in 1922, Crawshays has put together annual touring teams since then that include both seasoned internationals and promising young players. Geoffrey Crawshay died in 1954 but in 1964 the mantle was taken up by Colonel Sir William Crawshay who helped put the club on a better footing. Since the earliest days they have toured all over the world. It has long been considered an honour to be selected for a Crawshays touring team and they are renowned for their open attacking style of play. They play also in 10s and 7s competitions and nowadays field youth teams and a women's team. Many famous players, Swansea man amongst them, have turned out for Crawshays over the years. in 1931 Crawshay's team included 13 current internationals and they played against Devonport Services, Camborne and Torquay in a West Country tour, winning the first two and losing the last match.
