Abstract
-
This medal was presented to Swansea wing three-quarter Howell Lewis. Swansea won the welsh Championship this season with a record of: played: 37, won: 29, drawn: 6, lost: 2. They also beat South Africa at St Helen's on Boxing Day 1912 and Howell Lewis was a member of the Swansea team that day. The inscription on the reverse of the Championship medal reads: "S.R.F.C. Winners Welsh Campionship 1912-13. Howell Lewis Three Quarter." Lewis was capped 4 times by Wales between 1913 and 1914 and he was selected captain of Swansea's first fifteen for 1914-15 before the war stopped rugby. Lewis became the first post war captain of Swansea in 1919-20. This medal was kindly gifted to Swansea RFC by Alun Davies on 29th February 2020.
