Abstract
This newspaper cutting from an unknown local publication refers to a carved wooden shield that was presented by Swansea mayor F.C. Jenkins to Mr Ferdie Bergh, Manager of the touring Springboks side when they met and played Swansea RFC on 26th November 1960 at St Helen's. The fifteen signatures of the Swansea team selected to play South Afria, were engraved onto the face of the shield. Mr Bergh assured T. Morlais Morris that he would collect all the signatures of the South African team and send them to him so that a corresponding plaque with those signatures carved into it, could be presented to Swansea RFC. This was done and the shield has remained in posession of the Swansea club and so has since been returned to St Helen's. It was commissioned originally by Mr T Morlais Morris, a longtime swansea supporter and was carved by Mr Brynley Roberts of Morriston. See object: PQ005 and NC004.
